Living a Life of Sustainability

Living a Life of Sustainability

I am continuously searching for ways to help my customers learn more about living a life of sustainability. Several years ago I started making changes to my daily routine that will not only benefit my physical health but also my mental health. Life gave me the opportunity to reconnect with nature and to have a more fulfilling and sustainable lifestyle.

I became more in-tune with nature’s ecosystem and how it affects my wellbeing. I not only became more conscious of the ingredients in the products I use on my body but also in daily meals and home products.

Here are some tips to starting your journey to a healthier and more sustainable living:

I Started To Grow My Own Vegetables and Herbs

There’s nothing like growing your own produce. The first thing I started doing was growing my own herbs and veggies. In 2021, I had the opportunity to do a 12 month organic horticulture course at the Organic Centre in County Leitrim, where I got valuable knowledge and learned greener ways to grow my own produce.

My husband and I started a new project last year where we sowed and planted a lot more to be more self-sufficient. It’s hard work but rewarding and we are constantly learning. It is an experimental patch and is nice to see the progress.

I encourage you if you have space try to grow some things yourself. If not then even space on window sill, will allow you to grow some herbs. You can even regrow some vegetables on a window sill from the ends of some vegetables, like, celery or spring onions. You can upcycle them. Just cut them off cleanly at the bottom of the celery or cut off the the roots below the end of the bulb in case of the spring onions, place it root-end down in a glass of water and wait until you see the regrowth.

Part of natural living is to grow closer to nature itself. As you spend more time outdoor  you’ll discover all the wonderful ways to stay fit and healthy without a gym membership!

Finding Safer Alternatives for Store-bought Cleaning Products

I’ve been seeking out safer alternatives for cleaning products. Brands like Ecover and Lilly’s Eco Clean are great and effective natural options. I used to make my own but now I buy eco-friendly products supporting local Irish brands if I can.

Using Natural Body Care Products

Buying products developed from natural sources without toxic chemicals or preservatives helps not just on health but also decreases environmental impact and reduces environmental pollution.

You’d be surprised at what natural handmade soaps could do for your skin health! I’m now free of parabens or syntethic ingredients.

This was one of my main inspirations for creating soaps. To use only natural ingredients scented with essential oils and enriched with calendula oil and other high-quality oils and butters. They are vegan and vegetarian-friendly, carefully hand-made in small batches using clays and plant dyes and avoid artificial colours or micas.

Biodegradable body sponges, loofahs and brushes are better for the environment and for your body too! I stopped using plastic sponges made with synthetic and plastic materials and created eco-friendly alternatives. I even tried growing my own loofah sponge!
